Orek Tempe

INGREDIENTS:

1 pack of tempeh (I used the one with a net weight of 315gr – see picture) – cut into 1/2 x 1/2 x 3 cm size

Vegetable oil for deep frying

2 cloves of shallots

1 clove of garlic

4 teaspoons of brown sugar

1 tablespoon of vegetable oil

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon sugar

2 teaspoons sweet soy sauce

pepper

INSTRUCTIONS:

First deep fry the cut tempeh until it becomes crispy. I remember Cen Cen used to tell me that you will know that it is crispy enough when you pour it to a bowl and it make the ‘ting ting ting’ sounds. Once deep fried, set it aside.

Put together the brown sugar, garlic and shallots then grind them together until well blended.

Heat up a pan, put in one tablespoon of vegetable oil, then pour in the mixed brown sugar, garlic and shallots. Stir fry until the sweet fragrant smell comes out. Then add the sweet soy sauce, sugar, salt and pepper. Mix all together, then pour in the previously deep fried tempeh and blend it all together. Ready to serve.
